Stokesay Castle
The 2012 Legacy Gala was a huge success!
$80,000 was raised for JPII!
Stokesay Castle was bursting with excitement on the evening of March 31, 2012, when nearly 400 friends of John Paul II Center for Special Learning gathered together to celebrate the many accomplishments of our students and honor Msgr. James Treston at the Second Annual Legacy Gala presented by VIST Financial.
The evening began with the invocation offered by the Most Reverend John O. Barres, Bishop of Allentown. The JPII Tone Chime Choir then entertained guests by performing favorites of honoree Msgr. James Treston. An avid Philadelphia Phillies fan, Msgr. Treston was especially thrilled when the students led the room in a rousing rendition of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.”
During dinner, auctioneer Dick Henry conducted a spirited, fun, and highly successful live auction. Highlights of the auction included several bidding wars on items such as a private home Mass with a dinner catered by the Butler’s Pantry and a basketball signed by the entire inaugural Berks Catholic boy’s basketball team. At the conclusion of the auction, guests were asked to help the school by purchasing AlertSeat adaptive seating for the students. The response was overwhelming as bid cards were enthusiastically raised throughout the room.
Ginny Close, whose son Patrick participates in the New Horizons program, gave a heartfelt testimony about her family’s lengthy involvement with the John Paul II Center (Patrick was a student in the school-age program and now attends the adult program). The evening concluded in a special way with grateful recognition of Msgr. Treston and the loyal support he has given the school for many years. He was presented with the 2012 Halo Award by Principal Mary Adams and last year’s award recipient, Jack Horrigan.
The John Paul II Center for Special Learning extends a sincere thank you to all who helped make this year’s Legacy Gala such a wonderful event! Special recognition goes out to the Gala Committee members who devoted so much time, energy, and expertise to ensure the evening’s success. Thank you, also, to all who attended, purchased tickets and auction items, donated items for the auction, or volunteered or helped in any way. We couldn’t have done it without your generous assistance.

All proceeds from the 2012 Legacy Gala will help provide a high-quality educational program for our current and future students and empower them to develop their talents and God-given potential. Every day a new miracle occurs at school due to the generosity of our donors.
Even though the 2nd Annual Legacy Gala is now an inspiring memory instead of an upcoming event to look forward to, it is not too late to lend your support to the mission of John Paul II Center for Special Learning. Our students need your support year round!
